Observing National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
This year, the 82nd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor will be observed on 7 December.
Pearl harbor day 2025
Officially known as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Pearl Harbor survivors, veterans, and visitors from all over the world will come together to honor the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.
They will also remember the additional 1,178 people who were injured in the attack, which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft. This assault drew the United States into World War II with the United States declaring war on Japan the following day on 8 December 1941.
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day not only serves as a day to honor the individuals who lost their lives in the attack and to pay tribute to the veterans and survivors but it is also an opportunity to reflect on the impact of the attack and the historical significance of the United States' entry into World War II.
